Clive Christian started his interior design business in Cheshire in 1978. Today, his eponymous company has two corporate showrooms in London and New York as well as a network of 25 dealerships and partnerships around the world. Clive Christian interiors – which range from kitchens and bedrooms to panelled rooms and individual pieces of furniture – have become some of the most desirable in the world – and everything is still made in the UK.
“Our hallmark is that we are a British brand, with all the craftsmanship, quality and heritage that it evokes,” says Clive’s daughter Victoria, who is the company’s Brand Ambassador.
Initially, the export business came about as a result of customers and agents finding their way to Nantwich, loving the product and taking it back to their home market. Today, the company is actively seeking out new markets in partnership with UKTI and the Global Growth programme. “It’s so easy when you’re building a business not to look up,” she says, “but there’s a big wide world out there.”
